Multiple Injured as Rough Air Impacts Delta Aircraft Landing at Sydney, Australia
A number of individuals have been injured when a Delta Airlines jet originating in LA to Sydney experienced significant turbulence this past Friday.
Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it landed at the Sydney airport, a representative for the carrier informed. Several cabin crew members sustained injuries.
Emergency medical services stated they evaluated five patients, and took three to the hospital with minor injuries that included back pain and migraines. The injured were between their 30s to 70s.
The event represents the newest example of commercial jets experiencing severe turbulence, with researchers pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.
The aircraft was carrying nearly 250 travelers and 15 crew members on the aircraft, the representative added, adding that the plane landed "safely and normally" at the airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday.
Emergency responders indicated they got a call just three minutes before the plane arrived, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.
