Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
