A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former trainer Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
