Uche Ignites Comfortable Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but secures them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS ought to be enough to secure straight passage to the knockout stages, especially following a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match offered a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched against a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Control Asserted from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee dismissed the appeals.

Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
